Hi

I thought I might add some quick notes for the new comers to CPA forum.
We are all new once.

Do you know why you want to root your device?
  • Potential answers include:
* To change to a custom recovery
* To add a root capable file manager
------or allow an existing file manager to get root mode
---------------This then allows you to get to /system/app and delete system apps that you do not want. Ensure that removing them won't break your system though.
* Modify or customize your phone settings
* Install apps that needed a rooted device
* install a full ROM that is not an Official one

What happens if I root my device?
Most sellers will now void your warranty. You may be able to un-root your device and put back a stock recovery and stock images but that is not always possible.

Potentially you may lose the ability to gain Over The Air (OTA) updates for your phone if you no longer have a stock recovery or a stock image.

2) An unsafe app could now do more damage to your phone.

3) Which rooting method will work for my device?
IMHO try the easiest to understand and trouble shoot first.

That leads you to try......the one click methods.

Personal recommendation......not endorsed by CPA super mods but done to maybe speed up your success?

Try
Framaroot which offers 3 exploits

VROOT

#################################################

4) I can't root my device?
Try each of them

Then when all fail, post to each rooting method you have tried and provide details of what step you did successfully and where your attempt is failing. Don't forget to include: make, model, CPU chipset, Android version

This is not double posting as each subject is a different theme.

Be aware it is generally considered bad taste to hijack someone's post.
eg I start a post for can't root make A model B etc
and you reply that you can't root make X model Y

good luck
Excellent faq @aus9 .

I would add, If the phone can't be rooted with quick roots, or 'you' would like to do a backup as well, or possibly just want to learn a bit about working with your phone, the next step is to make cwm. There are several tutorials in the tutorial section.

Notably:

And then flash CWM with:

Then install su (root) from CWM recovery:

yes I forgot about your third link Sniper47 and you are the expert.

As that is a Windows tutorial, and we all know that Windows users have varying skills, can you append your third link into your first link?
that is....for a CPA member's device not yet rooted, you show them how to get CWM and then use CWM to install a zip file from unknown sources.

cheers

I resisted the temptation to make a post in the CWM because they are mostly Windows dependent methods.

No doubt, that is required. Thanks for the kick in the rump. Its on the table to add it to that tutorial.
I can't use my foot and its normally in my mouth
i got a korean make samasung galaxy note 3,MTK6589
with KITKAT 4.4.2
after rooting i found out that the battery was draining very fast ,
what can be the reason
i uninstalled it
was it bcos the rooting was not proper or due to some other reason
Hi

rooting it means putting su into /system/xbin
and somename-su.apk to /system/app

none of which should drain battery.

Its possible you left on wifi and internet was downloading crap
or you have a badly configured app.

Pls post new thread here
