Is it safe to assume that this "Phone storage" is the drive that has all my apps, and so on? and also safe to say I do not have 32GB of anything?

Use adb and get your data size.

adb shell

busybox df -h

below is mine, as you can see my data is 6.0G I have only used 19%, of my data partition, so I can continue to install apps with no problem, post your results.

Code:
root@Android:/ # busybox df -h

Ok I ran the command and got just what is says when I plug it into my computer

Total: 14.9GB
Used: 1.2M
Available: 13.7GB

Now help me understand whats going on here I am completely new to this I only know the basics, I understand that I only have 1 drive that is partitioned into 2. How do I see the partitions and how do I know which is internal (critical files only) and Phone storage where my apps and other stuff goes?

I want to know how it is partitioned and possible change it so that I can free up more space on this partition.

Well you need to post your output just like I did first.

I don't know how to do it like you did but here is what I have....

Your phone is broken down into 4 parts.

1. system
2. data
3. cache
4. storage

system is your OS.

data is your apps, wifi and so on, any changes you make to phone, that doesn't require root is stored in data.

cache is mainly for OTA upgrades.

storage is just storage, music, pics and so forth.
Thanks for explaining the basic breakdown for me, now my next question is how many partitions do I have is it 4 (such as OS, Data, Cache, and Storage) or just 2?

I thought the phone had only 2 partitions OS (which is normally 1 or 2GB) and Data (for all the other stuff user related) is this the case?

If I increase my data partition I'm thinking of making it 8GB (since I've had iPhones with only 8GB and they seem to work well with no issues installing apps) what will this affect and most of all will if affect the OS partition?

Based on what you have seen with my phone (storage wise) what do you suggest I do? how would you partition the phone allowing enough storage to satisfy OS and apps/media/files?

I added everything up based on the screenshot info and see that roughly 4GB has be allocated to be used for stuff to include OS, and Data...this leaves about 10GB of space (if my phone really does have 14GB of memory) Can you tell me what those 10GB are being used for? or is there a way to find out if they are even being used?

If that 10 isn't being used for anything will that tut that you referred me to help me put it to use?

Thanks for all the help.
According to your pics you have 13.7G to work with, going off that if you increased your data by 7G this will decrease your storage by 7G. So in the end you would have around 8G data and 6.7G storage.
All android's have the same 4 basic partitions, some have more but they store other stuff unimportant as far as what you want, which is more room for apps.
Data size is the most important partition as it determines how much stuff a user can add, read the thread to get a good understanding of how editing ebr1 and ebr2 works.
Ebr1 increases your data partition ebr2 decreases your storage by the exact amount you increased your data partition.
Ok again you have provided me with valuable knowledge about the Android system, thank you. I've started reading the thread only on page 2 so far (have other things to do) but I am trying to read everything before I do anything because I don't want to mess up my phone.

Just to be certain data does not need to be 8GB if I intend to put music, photos, documents, and video files on my phone right?

In actuality Data can be 4-5GB which is a lot of room for apps I'm guessing I can get about 100 apps on that partition.
I did the EBR edit it worked but it didn't work, what I mean is I selected 5GB and when I checked (ran the command "busybox df -h") I shows only 2.5GB it's better than before but now quite as I hoped.

On top of that my phone is messed up now, it's doing weird things, now when I boot/shutdown I don't get the shutdown animation anymore all I get is "Android", my IMEI is Unknown and I constantly keep loosing signal this never happened before.

I tried flashing back to my original ROM and that didn't change or correct these problems either so now I have to figure out how to correct this.

You have to read the thread completely, it was pointed out the math in the OP was wrong, the app in the thread was not reliable, you have to do the math via hand.

You said you were going to read the thread, and understand before making changes, seeing you have 2.5 GB instead of 5 GB you didn't do the math yourself, you either used the flawed OP math or the flawed app math.
