I got tired out with this EPO crap, and never got it to work. It just keep saying "EPO download error", tried all the guides nothing works... It's weired, because it used to work, and then out of the blue it doesn't...This sucks

So I flashed another ROM today, from needrom.com. Here GPS Works ok, but no EPO option for some reason Dunno, although it's for the Star S5 MTK6589 - but hey, GPS works...Thumbs Up
So maybe the problem lies in the ROM's...
HI, why is my engineer mode "location based service" disabled? I already turn on location services
Mine is Jiayu G5 2/32 with MIUI V5
Hi

My question is:

Having made these changes, does your phone keep a fix on your position when using Google Navigation in a car? Most of the fixes on this forum help to get an initial position lock. My problem is not that. The initial lock is fine. My iNew V3 loses the lock about 25 - 50 % of the time while driving, whereas other phones can easily maintain the position lock and thus keep Google Navigation contantly updated with the car's position. My iNew V3 can't the blue arrow in Google Navigation stands still for miinutes at a time, while I am driving.

Thanks

I get very good locked GPS in 15s for outdoor and 40s for indoor.

Your phone must be root. Use Root Explorer to edit file root/etc/gps.conf
You need to go to pool.ntp.org to find your own country active servers. For my example as for Australia, replace the content with the following:

NTP_SERVER=0.oceania.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.oceania.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.oceania.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.oceania.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.au.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.au.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.au.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.au.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=au.pool.ntp.org

Hi Everyone.

Im Jose from Mexico City.

I have one zopo zp998, and there is no EPO. and have very bad GPS signal. almost is useless. i rooted my phone and and some line in the system file, and also tried almost all the app thats must fix the GPS, no one did the job well. (even i created one little antena to help to fix the sattelites). so my question is if there is any chance to get the GPS working, or i have to buy another external GPS or another branded phone with good GPS like the sony xperia.

Thanks everyone for your quick opinions and help
Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I was looking for !
You saved my phone ! Big Grin

Mine is a MT5989 based Evolveo strongphone, and it worked on it nicely.
Do not work Sad(( Elephone P10
Great news (for me Smiling)! It worked on MTK 6582 Samsung S5. thanks a lot
Yes, GPS in MTK phones is often not so great, but tricks like the one in the OP usually makes it work all right. If you for some reason can't do what the OP suggests, here is another (and slightly easier) way of getting your GPS sorted:

You Need:
1. Rooted Phone
2. FasterGPS (from Google Play)
3. MT GPS (from Google Play)
4. Mobileuncle Tools (from Google Play)

How to:
1. Run "FasterGPS", select your continent and country; exit app
2. Run "MT GPS" and let it do it's thing; exit app
3. Restart phone
4. Run Mobileuncle
5. Select: Engineer Mode > Engineer Mode (MTK) > Location > YGPS > Information
6. Tap: "hot", "full" and "AGPS restart" (in this order; wait some 30 seconds between each tap)
7. Exit Mobileuncle

Your phone should now get a fix in 10-20 seconds.

Cheers,
Oioioi
I created an app that will download the EPO files from a faster, non-ftp mediatek location as well as help you by giving you a one-click fix option.

So just in case it is of use to any of you:
