[Question] Battery drain by cell standby
#1
I have a HASEE X50 ts, which is the same like zopo zp980+. It has a mtk6592
2/32GB ram but it has battery problems. Sometimes the battery drains from 60-70% to zero in 20 minutes. When I examined it with battery spy I found out that it is because of cell standby. I mean that usually cell standby drains about 1-5% of the battery per hour, but in my device it can exploid up to 300%. So the battery drains in 20 minutes. I am in the same place while this is happening so I cannot understand while is it so diffycult from it to find signal. It probably is a hardware problem. Any suggestions?

How long has it been doing this?

Since I bought it I think. Actually I have everything off(3g,wifi etc). I bought a second battery but nothing.

It can go from 100% to 60% in 6-7hours and then unexpectendly from 60% to zero in 20 minutes

Okay, but what is your total onscreen time? That is what's important. The % is just an estimate and depending on hardware sensors or ROM can be very innacurate. Also some ROMs don't register battery loss during sleep and when waking up after long periods of deep sleep can lose % rapidly.

The other problem can be incorrect kernel calibration.

Check your total onscreen time and voltage with GSam. When it hits 3.5V, the battery is empty. Also check to make sure your phone is deep sleeping (CPU Spy).

Ok I understand. But why does it lose signal? The cell standby exploids.

Are you having problems with network signal?
Or are you assuming that cell standby means the phone is busy searching for a signal?

If it is the second, cell radio takes up most of the battery's power. That is absolutely normal for "cell standby" to register the largest % of battery usage because the network PA is constantly dissipating power while the phone is running with a SIM card registered.
Android system just classifies cell radio consumption as cell standby. If you select that item, it should show statistics of how long the phone is running without network signal. If it is a large % then that would be a different issue.
Use Gsam battery spy like cookiedough suggested so you will see the cell radio categorized as such.

It has a signal the whole time but I assume that it is searching for signal. In the battery stats "cellstandby" sometimes is more than 50%. And 0time without signal.

I use battery spy. Is Gsam battery spy a better app?

I just cannot understand why it drains the battey so fast and so unexpectedly. It does not make sense.

Okay. Then that is absolutely normal. Most of power consumption is attributed to the power amplifiers that keep the phone connected to network, keeping it always available and ready for incoming data, even while deep sleeping.
Call standby doesn't mean it is searching for a signal, rather it is keeping the phone tethered to the service provider network. That is not in any way unusual. Typically, cell radio/ cell standby consumes around 70% of battery.
I havent tried battery spy, but seems popular. If you can see the logged on-screen time, then that's fine.

As cookiedough explained, that may easily be a rom bug or miscalibration. You need to find out what the average on-screen time you get on a full charge. If you are getting around 5 to 6 hours, that is fine. For a 1080p screen and ~2AH battery, that's perfectly normal. You may just have to brace yourself and have a charger ready when you hit the 60% mark.
