That's a good sign - shows that we are making some progress. I don't think it's necessary to format your PC.
Here's what you should do next... Have device manager open and as soon as you connect the phone to PC, look at the device manager for a device that appears and then disappears when you connect the phone. We need to figure out what drivers are needed to make the device stay connected. Do this process with the battery connected to the phone and then without the battery.
You have to find the drivers for your devices and install them manually using this procedure. I think PdaNet is easier but it doesn't always have the drivers for your phone but it's definitely worth a try.
You should install drivers using Windows device manager. If there is a device without a driver (denoted by an exclamation point), double-click the device to get to its properties page.
>Go to driver tab
>Select "update driver"
>Browse my computer for driver software
>In the driver location, press 'browse'
>Navigate to the folder with drivers for the device
>Select the driver folder your OS version (Win7 64-bit)
>Click OK to select the folder
>Click next
Windows should now install the drivers.
You should also look for the drivers the PC was unable to install, download, and install them.
