I put the phone back to factory settings, downloaded speaker cleaner app and hey presto seems to be OK! Hopefully problem solved! Thanks for all your help! X

Did it work after the factory reset? Or after running the app?
This is very strange situation. I wonder what it could have been. Maybe some app or virus hijacked. That's why wondering if it worked directly after factory reset.
