When you install Philz Touch ... try to press YES (auto) instead NO (manual).

I tried both ways but to my curiosity do I need to install SDk manager and java for the porting tool to work

Ok ... if you want to have a custom recovery on your device ... we could change strategy :-)
Try to follow the next steps :
1) Download and install MTK Droid Tools from the thread below :

2) Make a full backup of your device ... please watch carefully the video-tutorial below :
3) Try to install CWM on your device ... please watch carefully the video- tutorial below :

At first, try to format your microSD with the software below :

And then, try to choose the option "Mount/unmount partitions" on Philz
