I bought an Asus Zenfone 2 from Amazon DE... and i got one with stock Android CN Chinese firmware and WW update.
The phone was a crazy horse, full of bugs . Crashing on apps deinstall and repeated pop ups error whatsapp trying to read contact ...
I flashed a WW pre rooted firmware as you suggested and i solved.

which Flashtools zip do I download there is more than one?
Any chance anyone could help me here my ZF2 keeps freezing especially when i get calls and texts , I've read this tutorial and can't work out which files apart from the rom I need to download.

I don't know if this will fix your problem with calls and texts, but I've updated the original post to make it more clear which file to download (fastboot adb 1.032) so you can try the WW ROM.
Thank you for the reply Gizbeat I already have WW on 15.40 I'm hoping updating to the latest rom might sort my problems out and I like root as a bonus.
PS the new link (fastboot adb 1.032) is a private mediafire folder could you make it public please.

It should be unlocked now. Please try again.
Alas Vista won't install adb so I'll have to get hold off W10 for this I mostly use Ubuntu so have not bothered updating windows os for years but not alls lost as my phone seems to be working allright atm touch wood, I have been receiving calls and texts without any screen freeze after I deleted the Tumblr app.
Gizbat, why I cant OTA update now? whenever I try to search update after sometime nothing happens. But my big brother who owns 4gb version, he gets 0.139 update
